A very chilly morning when I set out to Meredith Harbor for sunrise. After bouncing around up and down the boardwalk, I settled on a shot of the Gazebo itself with the sun rising behind. When the sun rose I moved further to the Gazebo, even walking right up to it before I heard a hiss.
A raccoon was there laying on the bench. It didn’t seem injured, but scared of my presence and I immediately backed away. Only in New Hampshire, in a well to do town on its luxurious boardwalk and in front of a premier hotel complex, we have a rabid raccoon chilling in a gazebo.
I started moving back and the raccoon jumped up and ran towards me, turning and running up the stairs towards the hotel at Church Landing. I scurried up the hill to see where it was heading but it was gone from my sight. I figured the excitement at 5am plus the awesome photo I was sure to have, I was ready to call it a day and get back home.
